My Love for You

Part of my coffee woodblock series. A piece that can be like a sculpture sitting on a bench or table or hung on a wall like a traditional canvas.

I like a small piccolo style coffee later in the afternoon. Originally, I had ‘mon amour pour toi’ meaning ’my love for you’—written on her T-shirt, however in the end, I chose to remove it. The image of her quietly sipping her coffee already held the feeling and it didn’t need words to explain it—the moment spoke for itself. 

Her striped top stands out vividly against the muted, loosely rendered background of greys and warm tones. The brushwork is expressive and textured, with visible strokes
