This piece was inspired while I was working on another painting. My easel was positioned near a window, and later in the afternoon the sun filtered through the blinds, casting shifting patterns of light and shadow across the canvas. The work already featured stripes, and the overlay of natural light created a moment where it became difficult to distinguish what was painted and what was projected.
I was drawn to that sense of ambiguity. Lost in the Light explores this idea, inviting the viewer to question what is natural skin tone and what is shadow, creating an almost camouflaged effect.
The piece is built through expressive mark-making, which is central to my practice. A white border frames the work, enhancing the sense of brightness and suggesting a window-like quality, as though the light itself is entering the scene.
